Fudgy Brownie Mix
This fudgy brownie mix is an easy homemade gift that’s practical, simple to put together, and actually good when it’s baked.

A Homemade Gift in a Jar
The dry ingredients fit in a quart-size mason jar, making it easy to prepare ahead and give as a homemade gift. When it’s time to bake, just empty the mix into a bowl and add butter, eggs, and vanilla. The result is a rich, chocolatey batch of fudgy brownies baked in an 8×8-inch pan. It works well for Christmas gifts, teachers, neighbors, hostess gifts, or anytime you want to give something homemade without baking the finished treat ahead of time.

Assemble the Brownie Mix
Combine the flour and salt and add it to the bottom of a clean, completely dry quart-size mason jar. Carefully layer the cocoa powder over the flour, then add the granulated sugar and level the layer. Add the packed brown sugar, gently pressing it down to create an even layer, and top with the chocolate chips. Seal the jar tightly and store it in a cool, dry place until ready to use. Both regular-mouth and wide-mouth quart mason jars will hold the full brownie mix. A wide-mouth jar is especially convenient when layering the ingredients and works nicely for gift presentation.

Add the Wet Ingredients
Empty the entire jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl and stir to distribute the dry ingredients evenly. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Mix the Thick Batter
Stir until thoroughly combined and no dry flour remains. The batter will be thick — that’s how it’s supposed to be, so do not add extra liquid.

Spread and Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for approximately 33 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool Before Cutting
Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares. For clean slices, wait until they’re fully cool.

Giving Brownie Mix as a Gift
Add a gift tag to the jar listing the three ingredients the recipient needs to add: ½ cup melted unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Include the baking instructions, then finish the jar with ribbon, twine, or a simple fabric topper. This makes an easy homemade gift for holidays, teachers, neighbors, friends, or anyone who would appreciate a fresh pan of brownies without having to measure all of the dry ingredients first.
